Maumee Valley Adventurers

Maumee Valley Adventurers, a local group known for hosting bike tours and travel-related programs, is seeking applications for grants to support initiatives that further the group’s healthy lifestyle mission.

One-time grants, typically under $1,000, will be made to non-profit organizations, schools and similar civic-minded organizations. In awarding grants, the MVA board will be guided by the following priorities established by its purpose and bylaws:

• To promote and encourage outdoor activities and healthy lifestyle.

• To train and educate MVA members and the local community by using outdoor activities, educational and recreational travel and related programs; to develop fit, self-reliant, well-informed citizens

• To advise, support, and assist community groups in furtherance of the uses of bicycles for recreation, travel, and transportation by cooperation with schools, colleges and other educational, recreational and civic organizations in the development of programs of mutual interest

• To assert, safeguard, and advocate the rights of all bicyclists and to seek better public understanding and respect for existing rights and greater cooperation with the public authorities in the observance of traffic regulations by all users

Maumee Valley Adventurers, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, was formed by the board of the former Hostelling International-Toledo Area Council, to promote healthy, social lifestyles for the betterment of the community. MVA is funded by four annual bike tours: The Portage River Tour, Metroparks Tour, Irish Hills Tour and the Tombstone Tour/Family Haunted Bike Ride. The group also hosts weekly hikes or bike rides, participates in community events and sponsors a winter Travel Circle travelogue series in various Metroparks attended by more than 1,000 people.
