Maumee Valley Adventurers Awards Grant To Safe Kids For Bicycle Education
|
Maumee Valley Adventurers has awarded a $1,000 grant to Safe Kids Greater Toledo to help continue the program’s youth bicycle education efforts. The grant will pay for bike helmets, supplies and staff time to coordinate three bike rodeos.
MVA is a local organization formed by the board of the former Hostelling International-Toledo Area Council that provides education and affordable recreational opportunities for the community. Among other activities, MVA sponsors four annual bike tours in partnership with Toledo Bikes, the Elmore Historical Society and Metroparks.
“Bicycling is good for our health and environment, and it’s an important part of kids’ development,” said Judy Wright, president of MVA. “We support the work of Safe Kids because it’s important that children learn at an early age how to be safe and responsible riders. We hope that we are helping in some small way to develop in kids a lifelong love of bicycling – a passion that many people in our organization share.”
Safe Kids Greater Toledo is a community-based initiative of Safe Kids Worldwide. With ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital as the lead agency, Safe Kids is focused on the prevention of unintentional childhood injuries through public education, community programming, safety product distribution, legislation, and media outreach.
